Batteries and what to do with them!

A response from a TMBC officer which I hope you find helpful: -
"Household batteries can be collected for disposal in either the black bin or through the Saturday Bulky Goods Collection Service. However, residents may choose to take household batteries to the nearest Household Waste Recycling centre operated by Kent County Council ( or Medway) where there are separate facilities to recycle these materials. A full list of the Household waste recycling centres can be found at http://www.kent.gov.uk/environment/recycling-rubbish-and-waste/recycling/household-waste-recycling-centres/
At present there are a number of trials nationally into battery recycling. This includes various local authorities collecting at bring sites, council offices, schools etc. We will be monitoring these trials to look at best practice and determine which, if any, service would be best at T&M. I also know that some retailers such as Curry's have facilities for household battery recycling in store and Sainsbury's operate a postal service via envelopes available in store.
Car batteries must always be taken to the nearest Household Waste Recycling centre".
