Address Corrections to Match National Data Base!

As a requirement of the Government, Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council has recently matched the address information held on the Electoral Register against a National Address Database. The outcome is that a number of residents have recently received letters saying that their address does not match the database and therefore needs correcting. Of course this assumes the National Address Database is correct - which it may not be!

If you think the database is incorrect please email or write to TMBC saying so. Telephone calls are not being accepted but if you would like to call me on 01634 669569 I will log the calls and send the information to TMBC.

I understand your frustration and believe me you are not alone. Peter and I have been disappointed at the slow progress;

first the civils work, then a delay of some eight weeks; then the traffic lights and yes, a further delay because of a problem in the supply of the controller unit! We now understand the final testing is due to take place on Thursday but because of the Bank holiday final commissioning will be week commencing 26th May 2009.

Tonbridge & Malling Borough Council has been awarded a 0.5% increase in Central Government Funding for the forthcoming tax year, which equates to £32,000 - such 'generosity' when our energy costs alone have increased by £300,000!!
This Government has proudly announced a generous average settlement of 4.2% across the country which at our 0.5% clearly indicates some local councils must have received substantially more than 4.2% - who am I to suggest these councils may be in the north of the country!!
It is totally unreasonable for this Government to expect our local residents to supplement this woeful shortfall in a fair settlement but I am afraid it is indicative of the double standards applied by this Government.

Taddington Valley
